Charity

Mean more. Make the difference.

Charities compete for attention with less to spend.

Building awareness, growing donations, recruiting supporters, mobilising communities and communicating impact all demand that every pound and every interaction work hard, often with less resource than the organisations competing for people’s attention.

At AgencyUK, we combine brand, communications, web and tech to help charities become better known, better understood and better supported.

We find what makes your cause matter to the people you need to reach, turn it into communications that move them and create experiences that make supporting you easier.

Why is the charity sector different?

Caring and acting are two different things, and asking for money is different from selling something.

Supporters need to understand the need, believe their contribution matters and trust the organisation receiving it.

We connect proposition, storytelling, media, digital experience and conversion around that decision, helping charities move people from awareness to action without losing the humanity of the cause.

Our work for Julian House shows what that can mean in practice.

Brand

Mean more through meaningful difference.

A worthwhile cause needs a distinctive brand to stand out.

People are surrounded by organisations asking for their attention, time and money. Being important is only the start. Your organisation also needs to show why it matters and why supporting it makes a difference.

We help charities define their proposition, sharpen their story and build distinctive brands that supporters, partners, funders and communities can understand and believe in.

For Marmalade Trust, we worked with the charity and its stakeholders to develop its brand proposition and identity, creating the foundations for a growing organisation tackling loneliness. That clarity helps a charity become a charity of choice.

Communications

Mean more to more people.

People support causes for different reasons.

Personal experience, shared values, community, empathy, anger, hope and the desire to change something all play a part.

We use audience intelligence, research, behavioural insight and creative thinking to understand those motivations and turn them into communications people notice, remember and act on.

The most effective charity communications explain the problem and then show people the part they can play in changing it.

Web

Mean more through better experiences.

Someone deciding to support you shouldn’t have to fight your website to do it.

We create charity websites that make causes easier to understand, information easier to find and action easier to take.

For RUHX, the official charity of the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust, we created a new website around the questions donors ask, mapping distinct journeys for one-off, recurring, major and corporate donors.

The new site launched alongside the charity’s new identity, on time against a fixed deadline, with the experience designed to convert visitors into supporters and supporters into donors.

Every supporter interaction creates intelligence.

It shows what people search for, which stories engage them, what persuades them to donate, where they abandon a journey, which supporters come back and which messages turn interest into action.

We use technology, data and AI to help charities learn from those signals and keep improving what happens next, through smarter audience understanding, better reporting, personalised experiences and automated supporter communications. We use technology where it helps limited resources work harder, never for its own sake.

One cause at every supporter touchpoint.

People rarely experience a charity through one campaign. They might discover you through search, see a story on social, hear about you from a friend, visit your website, attend an event, sign a petition, volunteer, fundraise, donate once, donate every month or leave a legacy.

Every interaction can strengthen their connection to your cause or lose it. We bring brand, communications, web and tech together around the whole supporter journey, creating a clearer reason to care and an easier way to act.

Our charity work.

Turn awareness into advocacy.

A donation is an outcome, but a supporter relationship can be much more valuable.

Someone might first encounter your charity through a campaign, become a donor, volunteer their time, attend an event, fundraise for you, encourage others to get involved and eventually become a lifelong advocate.

Charity journeys are rarely linear. One person wants to donate now. Another wants to understand where their money goes. Someone else wants to volunteer, organise an event, become a corporate partner or leave a gift in their will.

We look beyond individual campaigns to the complete supporter experience, using audience understanding, UX, content and technology to give each supporter the right information and reassurance at each step. Connecting those moments turns occasional interactions into stronger relationships and more sustainable support.

Stories that move people.

Statistics show scale, while stories make people care.

For Above & Beyond, the challenge was low awareness and the need to generate support for cancer services across Bristol. Instead of talking about the organisation in the abstract, the campaign told the stories of real local people across digital, out of home, print and radio.

For Bath Cats & Dogs Home, we worked directly with its animal care teams to create emotive films and photography celebrating both the people doing the work and the animals whose lives they transform.

Frequently asked questions

How do you grow regular and legacy giving?

Growing regular and legacy giving starts with understanding why people support your cause and what builds a lasting relationship with them.

We use audience insight to shape propositions, campaigns and supporter journeys around different motivations and stages of giving. For regular giving, that includes thinking beyond acquisition to donor retention, engagement and the ongoing experience. Legacy giving requires a different conversation, built around relevance, trust and the long-term impact someone can make.

The objective is not simply to generate more donations today, but to build stronger supporter relationships that can create greater value for the charity over time.

Can you improve our donation journey?

Yes. A donation page should make giving straightforward, reassuring and easy to complete.

We look at the wider donation journey, from the campaign or content that motivates someone to give through to the information, forms and payment experience that follow. User experience, content, accessibility, page performance and testing can all help identify where potential donors encounter unnecessary friction.

Our web team can design and develop improvements while our communications specialists consider how the journey connects with the fundraising campaign. The aim is to protect the motivation that brought someone there and make acting on it as simple as possible.

How do you tell impact stories without exploiting the people you help?

Powerful impact stories don’t need to compromise the dignity of the people at the centre of them.

We look for ways to communicate the human significance of a charity’s work while treating contributors with respect and representing their experiences responsibly. That means considering consent, context, language and imagery as part of the creative process, rather than focusing solely on what might generate the strongest emotional response.

The best charity storytelling helps audiences understand why the work matters and what their support can make possible. Emotion has an important role, but trust matters too, for supporters and for the people whose stories are being told.
