Local Search Rankings
Three things decide who appears.
Local SEO is the work that makes a business visible in location-based search results, including the Google map pack, local organic listings and Google Maps.
Google ranks local results on three things:
Relevance
How closely your business matches what someone searched for.
Distance
How near you are to the searcher, or to the location named in their query.
Prominence
How well known and well regarded your business is, judged on reviews, citations, links and how consistent your information is across the web.
The biggest difference from general SEO is where the work happens. Your Google Business Profile and your data across the web carry far more weight, so two businesses with near-identical websites can rank very differently.
Local searches are also decisions in progress. Someone looking for a service near them is usually ready to choose, so a gain in local visibility tends to show up in calls and enquiries first.
